Current Role at Stowe: Lift Operations Team Lead

  • *Vermont department of labor, certified aerial tramway technician*

  • Work with a team of 3-5 leaders to manage lift operations department. About 75-100 people, 35-50 per day

  • Perform safety meetings to all staff weekly or as needed.

  • Ensure all 12 lifts comply with ANSI B77 code

  • Work with leadership team to provide staff with feedback on performance and career development

  • Identify safety hazards and create solutions in lift operations

  • Participate in Best practice calls at a resort and regional level (Northeast lift operations, Stowe GX action team, Safety team)

  • Assist in creating and execute a training structure for lift department

  • Monitor uphill lift efficiency. (2,3,4,6 per chair, 8 per cabin) Identify efficiency problems and work towards improvment

  • Represent Vail, Stowe and the Lift operations department with shadow groups

  • Constantly communicate with lift maintenance to create a smooth lift operations experience to the guest

  • adjust our operation as needed to met other department needs

  • Follow vail resorts safety standards

  • Be familiar with the operation of lift machinery and procedures for all aerial lifts at Stowe

  • Assist in inspection, repair, and maintenance of all aerial lifts

  • Assist in diagnostics and repair of aerial lifts

  • Assist in disassembles, overhauls, and construction of lift related projects

  • Comply with state regulations on aerial lift operations

  • Be familiar with heavy machinery operation and hand signals

  • Perform lift component trouble shooting and repairs. Sheaves, grips, belts, pulleys, drive shafts, tires, tire cartridges, pair bars and more

  • Basic low voltage trouble shooting around brittle bars, CPS/RPD systems and operational buttons

  • Perform weekly, monthly and yearly work order. Inform supervisor with all maintenance concerns

  • Continuously ask questions, learn, and further progress my knowledge in the State lift maintenance program.

  • Be a leader and assist as needed with lift operator training

(Above)-A rebuilt 6 sheave assembly is being hoisted back up to Gondola tower 27 heavy side. In 2022 this assembly gave us some troubles and that off season, we replaced all its axles and bushings, all its pivot points got new grease and gave it all rebuilt sheaves. We then rewired the tower after installing.

(Above)- a freshly rebuild, cleaned and buffed out CWA door mechanism for the Stowe gondola. When with lift maintenance, my lift in the winter was the Gondola. At the time, I enjoyed being able to own the fastest monocle gondola in the world when built at 1200 FPM! Each week I would perform door inspections and bring the doors in the most need of repair into the grip shop to be rebuild and properly adjusted.

(Above)-From 2020 to 2022, I would travel to Vail owned in mountains in New Hampshire to assist in lift maintenance duties while needed to integrating from Peak resorts to Vail. This photo shows Maintenance manager, Lance Rasmussen and I, installing a new 4x4 combo assembly on tower 4 on the Wildcat express. The new assembly was from the decommissioned Peru Express at Keystone and rebuilt at Wildcat. We had to truck the assembly down a steep hill in pieces via UTV and then rebuild it under the tower.

(Above)-Preparing to pick these 2 sheaves and change out the left one due to a bad bearing. Lift is the decommissioned Summit Triple at Attitash in fall 2020.

(Above)-freshly installed Snow product on Stowe new sunrise 6. This will keep our loading deck at a consistent height to the guests and reduce the amount of snow needed to keep the deck in tip top shape. The brushes will help us keep sugar snow on the deck when we have a freeze thaw.

(Above)-Changing out 2 sheaves on a 2011 UNI-G Doppelmayr. Tower 19 sheaves 5/6 on Fourunner Quad at Stowe. You can see the screw jack used to secure the pair bar and lift the rope just under the left grip needle.

(Above)-Linework on a 1979 Riblet Double. These sheaves use a tapered roller bearing instead of sealed bearings. Every sheave and pivot point on this lift gets greased.

(Above)-Terminal work on a Doppelmayr UNI-G. Tires removed to check the bearings in cartridges and soon we will use the rope lifter to check the PTO sheaves below.


(Above)-Rebuilding LPA Omega grips for the over easy after its yearly NDT cycle. ANSI code states that any lift with under 5 carriers in its 20% criteria states that 50% of its carriers must then be NDT'ed. The over easy meets that but we do 100% yearly because they grips see a lot of use being a short, dual season transfer gondola.
